Meet Dana D’Orsi – Marketing Strategist & Personal Growth Catalyst
To help you get to know me better, I’d like to share a little background with you about my path to becoming a coach—and the defining moment that changed my life forever.
Before I started my own business, I had been working in Corporate Communications, PR, and Marketing for a Fortune 500 company for about eight years. The early years of my Corporate experience were really exciting for me. I was learning a lot, it was very engaging, and it was a great place for me to be at that particular time in my life. But over time, I began to become a bit disengaged—especially over the last few years with the recession.
By the time I left the company, I had witnessed four rounds of layoffs. Luckily, I had survived those layoffs, but seeing my team members who I respected, admired and cared deeply about being impacted really challenged my loyalty to that company—and to corporations in general.
It really drove home the fact that when you work for a corporation, you don’t have full control over your career or over your life. I had felt the urge from time to time to be doing something on my own and to build a business where, if it succeeded it was because of me and if it failed it was because of me—but either way, it was on me. To create a business where I was in control of the decisions, I was in charge of the budget and I developed the strategies…Something that was mine.
But I put those thoughts on the back burner for a while. After all, I had survived all four rounds of layoffs so I felt my job was fairly steady and secure for the time being. And to the outside world, I was incredibly lucky. I had a respectable, professional job with a great, six-figure income. Additionally, I had a wonderful husband and two young children at home, so there was a lot going on in my life—certainly enough to keep me busy. While I wasn’t truly fulfilled in my career, I was comfortable and I wasn’t ready to really step out of my comfort zone just yet…
Fast forward to the Summer of 2011 when my father passed away after a brave and fearless battle with lung cancer. I was very fortunate to be able to spend a lot of time with him during his final weeks. And during that time, I entered a deep period of soul searching around what I really wanted my life to be about.
I came to the realization that I was really just running my life on autopilot. I didn’t feel like I was making as big of an impact on the world as I could be—and should be.
At that time I had the realization that I needed to figure out what it was that I wanted to be doing, so I immersed myself in a ton of personal development books, courses, audio programs and more, trying to figure out my purpose.
I realized that one thing I was truly passionate about was helping other people figure out their purposes, so I entered into the world of coaching and became a life and career transformation coach for women. I finally felt fulfilled, working with private clients to help them identify their true passions and start to intentionally design and live their ideal lives.
As I mentioned earlier, I had a strong marketing background, so I really enjoyed applying that knowledge when launching my own business. I felt I was able to “use my power for good, rather than for evil,” so to speak. I really immersed myself in the study of marketing small businesses (which is a different animal than marketing for large corporations). I hungrily absorbed the principles of relationship marketing, direct marketing and Internet marketing—and all of it clicked pretty quickly for me. I came to recognize that marketing, in general, is one of my strongest natural abilities.
As I was marketing my own new business and seeing great results, a number of fellow business owners began approaching me for marketing coaching, sales advice, and business coaching. So I took them on as clients and officially expanded my reach of services to also include business and marketing coaching for entrepreneurs. My focus is now on helping them build thriving businesses based on their deepest passions so they can make a meaningful impact on the world and create abundant lives—with more than enough money, freedom and time.
With immense pride, I’ve witnessed my clients gaining clarity around their vision for their businesses and lives, and making remarkable, rapid strides toward their goals. And I began to notice that I was using a specific set of steps and strategies repeatedly with my clients to move them along their path—and they were pretty much the same steps and strategies I used to build my business. So I decided to package these steps together in a step-by-step system for not only my private clients—but others as well—to help them grow their businesses, unleash their potential and create their most extraordinary lives. I call this series of steps the “Build Your Six Figure Business” Blueprint™.
